The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy is facilitated at the TPSO Rifle Range. It is responsible for basic law enforcement training for new law enforcement and correctional officers. Lesson plans meet the requirements of the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council. In conjunction with offering what is required, extensive elective courses which better prepare officers for their career are taught. This training is not limited to within our jurisdiction. However, agencies from around the state send their upcoming Law Enforcement Officers through this course.
This team is comprised of employees of the Houma Police Department (PFC. Andy Scott) and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office (Capt. Tim Lucas, 1st Lt. Jamie Trahan, Lt. Michael Morrison, and Sgt. Taylor Billiot). In conjunction with the training of new employees, our team also is responsible for the recertification of all current employees.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy is a POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy (Level 1) consisting of approximately 600 hours of training. The students must be commissioned Law Enforcement Officers (as per Louisiana P.O.S.T. Standards).
The tuition for this Academy is eight hundred and fifty dollars ($850.00) which is due on the first day of the academy or prior (Payable to Terrebonne S.O. Training Academy). The academy will accept personnel from any Law Enforcement Agency in the state. Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office also has affordable offsite lodging that can be provided per request.
The hours of the Academy will be from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. These hours will vary on occasion according to the schedule.
Students will have to participate in Physical Training to meet Louisiana P.O.S.T. and Academy requirements; therefore, students should not attend if they have any physical limitations. There is not any entrance test only an exit PT Test (50%). Students will be required to meet at least 70% on all Academic sections, and 80% on Louisiana P.O.S.T. firearms course in order to graduate the academy.
