Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Houma man during a disturbance incident, at a local Houma bar. Kennith Joseph Carter III, 42, was arrested on 15 felony weapons charges in connection with the investigation.
On Saturday, February 15th, shortly after 5:00pm, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to a local establishment in the 6600 block of West Park Ave, after reports of a male pointing a weapon emerged. TPSO Deputies quickly arrived and determined that a large group of patrons at the business were threatened with a firearm by an unknown male at a nearby residence. As Deputies continued their investigation, they were provided with a video recording which confirmed the actions of the suspect. Deputies were able to positively identify 15 victims who were present at the time of the incident.
Through further investigation, Deputies were able to identify the male suspect as Kennith J. Carter III and link him to a nearby residence in the 100 block of Westview Drive. Deputies arrived at the residence and located Carter inside, who was immediately taken into custody. A short time later, Deputies were able to recover the loaded firearm and an additional loaded magazine on Carter’s property, which matched the firearm observed in the video footage.
Deputies spoke with Carter who stated that loud music could be heard coming from the area of the business which woke up his young child. Carter admitted to pointing the firearm at the patrons, but stated he had no intentions of hurting anyone.
Kennith Joseph Carter III was arrested by Deputies on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (15 counts), and was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. Carter was later released on a $150,000.00 bond by local judges.
Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “Our Patrol Division did an incredible job investigating this incident. This incident could have ended much differently, if not for their quick response. I’m grateful for the job these very brave men and women do daily to protect this community.”
