Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed that the TPSO is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred near Alex Lane in the Smithridge neighborhood of Chauvin, La, which left a 14-year-old male dead. The TPSO Patrol Division were called to the scene, on Friday, October 25th, shortly after 12:30 pm, after a resident discovered the body of the deceased male, in a wooded area, and called Authorities.
Deputies confirmed that the young male was deceased, and Detectives were called to the scene. During the initial investigation, Detectives were quickly able to identify the deceased male, who was a resident of Chauvin, La. The victim’s family was notified of his passing, as well as the circumstances surrounding the investigation; However, the identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
Through further investigation, Detectives were able to link the victim to a series of vehicle burglaries which occurred during the late hours of Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, along with two additional black male suspects who were also responsible for the crimes.
As the investigation continued, Detectives were able to link the black male suspects to the shooting death of the victim, which was confirmed through interactions with family members of the suspects in question. The juvenile male suspects were brought in for questioning, and during an interview, a suspect admitted to being responsible for the death of the victim.
As a result, two juvenile male suspects have been arrested for charges of Second-Degree Murder, in connection with this investigation. The suspects identities are not being released at this point in the investigation.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
Sheriff Soignet said, “Our Detectives have worked tirelessly since learning of the incident, and we are striving to bring a quick resolution to this extremely tragic event. As always, we ask for privacy for the family and friends of the victims, and patience from the community as we continue to investigate this complex case. We will not stop until we bring justice to those affected in this heinous act of violence.”
